Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program



Each and every city has to deal with the waste that comes out in a much larger quantity from a number of households. All of them have some specialized plans designed for combating with waste. When it comes to city like Los Angeles they have a special program designed to combat waste known as Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program. This program is well planned and designed by The City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Sanitation. It is designed with the help of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. 

This particular program aims to combat the daily household waste by opting safe and legally approved disposal ways.  It helps the local residents to dispose of the unwanted waste in the most appropriate way. As per the scheme, the local residents can dispose off the household hazardous waste to the HHW collection events, This facility is provided absolutely free of cost.  These collection events exists in the areas which are not served by the by the S.A.F.E. Collection Centers. The events are generally kept on Saturdays and Sundays.  The timing of the event stays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Whenever such events are planned at that time the information is provided to the local residents through flyers. Also the details of the event are published on the on the Bureau's website. The event is open to all the local residents and it doesn’t demands any kind of reservation or appointment. The schedule of events is always available on the website. There are dedicated numbers on which the residents can call and can get the required information.

Although the HHW event is meant to dispose of all the household wastes but still it has restrictions to what can be disposed off and what products can’t be. The items or the waste products allowed in the HHW Collection Event includes electronic wastes like children toys, microwaves, mobile phones, TV sets, cables etc. The residents can bring other items like household cleaning products, unused pool chemicals, then other kind of garden chemicals, car batteries and many others. The items that do not fall under this category are heavy household items like furniture, refrigerators, computer software and alike. Then it also excludes harmful products like ammunition and explosives, medical waste, and many others. The details of the items are available on the website and it is always wise to check the list before you actually go at the event to dispose off the HHW.
